New book: Lavinia Stan, Lucian Turcescu (eds.), Justice, Memory and Redress in Romania: New Insights

„Are there any lessons Romania can teach transitional justice scholars and practitioners? This book argues that important insights emerge when analyzing a country with a moderate record of coming to terms with its communist past. Taking a broad definition of transitional justice as their starting point, contributors provide fresh assessments of the history commission, court trials, public identifications of former communist perpetrators, commemorations, and unofficial artistic projects that seek to address and redress the legacies of communist human rights violations.

New book: Juliane Fürst, Josie McLellan (eds.), Dropping out of Socialism. The Creation of Alternative Spheres in the Soviet Bloc

„The essays in this collection make up the first study of «dropping out» of late state socialism in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. From Leningrad intellectuals and Berlin squatters to Bosnian Muslim madrassa students and Romanian yogis, groups and individuals across the Eastern Bloc rejected mainstream socialist culture. In the process, multiple drop-out cultures were created, with their own spaces, music, values, style, slang, ideology and networks. Under socialism, this phenomenon was little-known outside the socialist sphere. 

Call for Papers: Conferinta Naționala „Comunismul Romanesc”, editia a VII-a, București, 30-31 martie 2017

Consiliul Naţional pentru Studierea Arhivelor Securităţii (C.N.S.A.S.) şi Institutul de Istorie „Nicolae Iorga” (I.I.N.I.) organizează anual, ȋncepȃnd cu anul 2011, Conferinţa Naţională „Comunismul Românesc” (C.N.C.R.). Conferința este dedicată studierii comunismului românesc în context est-central european.

Până acum au fost organizate şase ediţii ale C.N.C.R. Cea de-a șaptea ediție a C.N.C.R. (CNCR VII), care va avea loc în perioada 30-31 martie 2017, va fi organizată în colaborare cu Facultatea de Istorie a Universităţii din Bucureşti și va beneficia, la fel ca şi ediţiile precedente, de sprijinul generos al Fundaţiei Konrad Adenauer.

New book: Kevin Morgan, International Communism and the Cult of the Individual. Leaders, Tribunes and Martyrs under Lenin and Stalin

"This book explores how the communist cult of the individual was not just a Soviet phenomenon but an international one. When Stalin died in 1953, the communists of all countries united in mourning the figure that was the incarnation of their cause. Though its international character was one of the distinguishing features of the communist cult of personality, this is the first extended study to approach the phenomenon over the longer period of its development in a truly transnational and comparative perspective.

Apariție editorială: Pr. Vasile Rus, Gheorghe Pașca… Viața și jertfa

A apărut recent la Editura „Născut liber” din Bistrița volumul semnat de Pr. Vasile Rus, „Gheorghe Pașca… Viața și jertfa”, despre cunoscutul luptător anticomunist maramureșean Gheorghe Pașca.

În perioada 1946-1956 acesta a fost urmărit permanent de autoritățile comuniste pentru a-l elimina. Cu greu, acest lucru s-a întâmplat în 5 februarie 1956, când a fost încercuit într-un buncăr de pe Valea Izvorului din Bichigiu, județul Bistrița-Năsăud și împușcat.

Lucrarea are la bază documente din dosarul de grup al lui Gheorghe Pașca din arhiva CNSAS dar și o documentare de istorie orală realizată de autor în 2016, în județele Maramureș și Bistrița-Năsăud.
